EEPIS Online. They are 4 EEPIS students from Electrical Industry department; M. Firmansyah, M. Masru, Oxi Purbaya and Anang Priyono adviced by Ir. Era Purwanto, M.Eng, Indhana Sudiharto, ST. MT and Endro Wahjono S.ST who design and make automatic regulator which firstly represented PENS to follow PIMNAS XXII 2009 will be held in Brawijay University, Malang on July 21-25. Though they failed, however their creation which also as a final project can attract many attentions because of its benefit.
The technology that offered by this team led by Firman named "Intelegen Regulator Kompor Gas Elpiji†is also as Firman and Masru final project. There were a lot of explosions caused by LPG leak in society; it becomes a reason for Firman to make this creation. There are a lot of gas leak detectors distributed in the community; this creation is the development of the existed tool. Most of the gas leak detector installed a solenoid valve on the pipe regulators. It still allows a gas leak in the tube. That’s why they take solenoid valve not in regulator pipe but in valve which directly connected with the tube. It was done because the gas density is lighter than air, so gas is always moving downward. If there was a gas leak, the gas will be detected by the sensor. Sensors that are connected to the module are able to make the solenoid valve work. With a microcontroller as a base module, the gas is changing into a voltage. As a result, the plunger will move downward so that the plug closes the hole on the port and prevent gas passing through the valve.
In addition, this tool is also equipped with an alarm that will sound and the indicator light that will be lit when there s a leak. This alarm will die along with the closing of the gas hole. Placement of solenoid valve in the valve makes a point plus in this device. To support the device, they observed to PERTAMINA in Rungkut, Surabaya. Through repeated experiments, finally this device can detect the gas leak properly. Not only that, they also anticipate the rest of the exhaust gas due to leakage by placing the exhaust fan in the area around the storage tube. So that the remaining gas will be immediately pushed out with gusts of air from the exhaust fan that will automatically flared. After leaks are minimized and safe, then the control panel will appear the words "safe condition".
When they were asked about the large cost of making these tools Masru replied, "To make this tool at least require cost, around 4-5 million" said Masru. However, Masru said that he satisfied with his creation because it can be developed not only in industrial scale but also house use scale in the future. Agreed with Masru, Firman also said the same thing. "To bring our creative ideas, we must be sensitive to the condition of society" he added. (Humpens)
