EEPIS Online, A few days ago, EEPIS Public Relation had an opportunity in interviewing Mr. Prof. Mohammad Nuh in his house in case the death of Mr. Osamu Makino. He said that he quite shocked with Mr. Osamu Makino’s death that he knew by telephone connection with Mr. Osamu Makino’s son from Japan. Here it is the result of the interview.
How was your first introduction with Mr. Osamu Makino?
I worked with Mr. Osamu Makino for long enough, exactly when I joined with EEPIS in 1990s. Not longer after that, about 1991 I recognized Mr. Makino as a Senior Expert. Since then I got interact with him.
What was your impression about Mr. Osamu Makino that time?
Three things that occurred in my head; first, he is so sincere. I could see it, he is very sincere. Second, he has creative ideas, the last is his big love and sense of belonging of EEPIS.
Please explain to us how much the Mr. Osamu Makino’s contributions in EEPIS history?
He contributed in designing EEPIS from the beginning with Mr. Naito and friends. At that time, I didn’t join because I joined with EEPIS in 1990s, when it’s relatively new because there ware no graduates. After that, EEPIS has been growing and it’s because Mr. Makino. It was starting from establishment of Job Placement or known as Job Arrangement now, also the department development or Information Technology major and the best thing which very prestigious is D4 Program. Diploma 4 is the second phase of grant from the Japan government through JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). I could feel the hard struggle to get the grant of D4 program. He was really “put the body†for this project. Because it was not only offered to the EEPIS, but also the other colleagues in ITS were very enthusiast to this program. Furthermore, he also gave his efforts to make a good relationship not only between JICA and EEPIS but also the related communities and societies; such as in making supporting document, new scholarship scheme, etc, either when I was the 3rd Assistant of Director or Director.
How deep the relationship?
The relationship is not only between the societies but also the individuals within, though we’re not always met but we send e-mail each other and give news by phone. Besides that, Mrs. Makino also has an important role because she contributes in developing the relationship inter societies. She contributed to connect Indonesian Society and Japan Society.
How is your relationship with Mr. Osamu Makino’s family?
I know Mr. Makino and his family well, his wife and his children. When I came to Japan I visited his house, since I was a Director of EEPIS, Rector of ITS, until I became a Minister. During he is in Japan, I communicated with him by e-mail for several times. I also have a good relationship with the community in Soka University.
What is the most memorable experience with him?
I give my all respect to him and really touched by his big love to EEPIS. What he had done here (in EEPIS) has a good result; the one that can be known and remembered is the moment when JICA gave an award to EEPIS. JICA Special Award (Award of JICA projects in the world, red) which was given to Mr. Makino and I accompanied him at that time. That was the extraordinary thing in achievement. Once more, he also contributed in developing Polytechnic in Indonesia, especially in electronics field and EMC. In its eventual EEPIS become a reference for the development of electronics field in Indonesia.
What is your plan as an appreciation for his good turn?
I want to propose a kind of special award to him, in any form. On that occasion we invited Mrs. Makino to Indonesia to accept that award. But if it is not possible, we can give it to her directly. I heard that D4=S1 robot team is going to Japan on the middle of this month. At that time, we can arrange some agenda to visit Mrs. Makino’s house or even invite her in banquet in Tokyo, Japan or anywhere. The technique can be arranged later, but the point is let us give salutation and a great appreciation for his good turn.
Finally, what can we learn from Mr. Osamu Makino’s figure?
First, his spirit. Mr. Makino is a passionate person; he also has a big dream. I’m very impressed by his big spirit, this spirit teaches us to never give up with all the limitation existed. By his spirit, I know that he was able to finish his doctoral studies in his â€senior†age. Where in that age he still could do a research and even continue his studies. That indicated that he has a high dedication in knowledge. Second, we can learn his consistence and his loyalty. Let us grow the principles of loyalty to our institution for our love to everything that we had struggled together.
